Missional Discipleship

For those of you that weren’t here last week, you are stepping into a conversation about missional living. For the rest of this month and the first Sunday in May, we are setting aside a time each Sunday to emphasize the mission of God here amongst us in a time we call Mission’s Emphasis. This year rather than an information dump about the ministries and missions we support we are looking at the characteristics of a believer engaged in missional living and it is our HOPE that in doing so we would call each of you into sharing in the life of the son. Last week’s focus was that we must not, as a church, neglect prayer. Prayer is the deep roots of faith that connect us both to the Living Water and connect us together. The church is not merely “resigned” to pray while others go and do, it’s where we TOGETHER take root to reach the incredible heights that God has for us.

The second practice that must be present for someone desiring to live missionally is discipleship. Discipleship is simply the passion, commitment, and discipline to help others grow deeper in their relationship with Christ…….and this can happen in the life of a believer as both the disciple and the discipler simultaneously. Paul himself an example of this in that he instructs the church in Corinth to “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ” We must each lead while also being led.
