Living On Purpose

The average person will spend 90,000 hours at work over a lifetime according to Andrew Naber, (industrial-organizational psychologist and data scientist). That is roughly 10.3 years. Greg Moody shared with us a couple weeks ago that the jobs we work and businesses of our employ, have a mission statement that directs the efforts of its employees. For roughly 90,000 hours of our lifetimes we are working under the purpose and mission of our occupation, but what would happen if you worked with a mission but never actually followed it. Likely you’d get fired. In much the same way, we must avail ourselves to the purpose that God has given each of you in a way that shows we are living not just WITH purpose, but ON purpose.

In 2 Corinthians 3:16-18 God’s word says, “But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”

God himself removed the veil that once separated God and man by sending His son Jesus to this earth. He didn’t just say He loved his creation, he actually showed that love. God availed himself to us and in doing so, we cannot remain unphased and unchanged. Instead we are being transformed into the SAME IMAGE. Our will becomes the will of God, our work becomes His work, our life becomes His life. Jesus routinely put himself in places that made him available to every day people. Ultimately He is calling you to live a life of availability as well. Are you living on purpose?
